The Senate of Universitas Tadaluko (UNTAD), Palu, Central Sulawesi, visited Universitas Sumatera Utara (USU), especially the Academic Senate of USU, on Thursday (13/9) to study the institutional functions of the Academic Senate in a PTN-BH.
MEDAN - USU PUBLIC RELATIONS: The Senate of Universitas Tadaluko (UNTAD), Palu, Central Sulawesi, visited Universitas Sumatera Utara (USU), especially the Academic Senate of USU Thursday (13/9) in order to study the institutional functions of the Academic Senate in a PTN-BH. The group was received at the USU Academic Senate Secretariat Office by the Head of the USU Academic Senate, Prof. dr. Chairul Yoel, Sp. A (K), Secretary of the USU Academic Senate, Muhammad Arifin Nasution, S Sos, MSP, along with the Head and Secretary of the USU Academic Senate Commission. While from the UNTAD Senate, the Head of the UNTAD Senate, Prof. H Hasan Basri, M.A., Ph.D., Secretary of the UNTAD Senate, Dr. Ir. Sakka Samudin, and the Head and Secretary of the UNTAD Academic Senate Commission were present. Seven representatives from UNTAD were in attendance.
The Head of the UNTAD Academic Senate on the occasion said that this visit aims to broaden the horizons and capture input from other universities, especially those that have first held the status of PTN-BH, as well as the products and contributions of the Academic Senate so that they can be applied in the statute of Tadaluko University in the future.
In his speech, the Head of the USU Academic Senate, Prof. Dr. Chairul Yoel Sp. A (K), expressed the USU's joy at the visit of Universitas Tadaluko and hoped there could be closer cooperation between the two universities. The Head of SA USU added that the Academic Senate of Universitas Sumatera Utara, in every direction of its program, always refers to the vision and mission of USU by promoting the BINTANG Value System (Fearing God Almighty in the frame of Diversity, Innovative with integrity and Tough and Arif) and the superior field of TALENTA.
The Head of the USU SA also added that structurally, the USU SA refers to PP No. 16 of 2014 concerning the USU Statute; in this case, USU specifically adapts the local wisdom of North Sumatra, especially in the Batak ethnicity, namely the philosophy of "Dalian Na Tolu" where the three main components are the Rector and the Board of Professors, the Academic Senate and the Board of Trustees working hand in hand and in harmony in the running of the activities of Universitas Sumatera Utara.
The Head of SA USU also added several SA recommendations as an active contribution of SA USU in achieving better academic achievements, especially accelerating the improvement of University accreditation. The SA USU recommendations include that the acceleration and improvement of accreditation programs must be made a top priority in USU activities; it is necessary to form a special unit that carries out planning, coordination of assistance, and supervision. Allocation of an adequate budget in the Annual RKAT starting in 2015, establishing a database in each faculty and study program, and prioritizing study programs with expired accreditation status and those with the potential to achieve A accreditation.
According to the Head of SA, this recommendation received a strong response from the Rectorate as the main operational manager of the university, which resulted in the end of 2017, when USU managed to increase the number of study programs with A accreditation ratings by 35%. This achievement turned out to have a positive impact on institutional accreditation, where since February 27, 2018, USU has been determined to achieve accreditation A with a score of 365.
The Head of SA USU emphasized that USU is fully aware that as a motivation to achieve a better ranking to position itself as one of the leading national universities in Indonesia, the first step forward is to continue the program of improving achievements against various BAN-PT accreditation standards.
