MEDAN - USU PR: The Senate Delegation of Universitas Brawijaya (UB) Malang conducted a comparative study visit to the Academic Senate of Universitas Sumatera Utara (USU) on Thursday (13/12). The Head of the USU Academic Senate received the delegation, Prof. Dr. Chairul Yoel, Sp. A (K), Secretary of Academic Senate Muhammad Arifin Nasution, S.Sos., MSP, Prof. Dr. dr. Delfitri Munir, Sp. THT-KL (K), dr. Hemma Yulfi, DAP&E, M.Med.Ed, Prof. Dr. Harmein Nasution, MSIE, Dr. Poppy Anjelisa Z Hasibuan, M.Si., Apt., Prof. Dr. Tan Kamelo, S.H., M.S., Prof. Dr. Dra. Irnawati M. Simatupang, M.S., Ir. Syahrizal, M.T. and Dr. Zaimah Z Tala, M.S., Sp.GK. The meeting occurred in the Academic Senate Room, USU Central Administration Bureau Building lt. 3, Medan.

Prof. Ariffin from the UB Senate said that through this visit, it is hoped that in the future, there will be a better cooperative relationship between the two universities and add insight to both parties. He added that in its development, UB, which has been in BLU status for two years, is preparing for PTN-BH status. They are conducting studies, among others, by visiting several state universities that have first held PTN-BH status to obtain accurate information based on experience on how to manage PTN-BH with its various challenges.

PTNs that the UB Senate has visited include UI, UNPAD, UNHAS, ITB, IPB, and currently USU. UB currently has approximately 2,200 lecturers, with a composition of 60% civil servants, the rest of non-civil educators, and approximately 65,000 students. This certainly needs to be examined in relation to management if UB is in PTN-BH status one day.

The Head of the USU Academic Senate, Prof. dr. Chairul Yoel, Sp. A (K), in his remarks, welcomed the UB Senate group and expressed his gratitude for the visit. Prof. Yoel said that with the status of PTN-BH in general, there are certainly many possibilities for PTN to develop better, but in some fields, the autonomy is still not fully managed by USU because it is related to several ministries.

Prof. Yoel also explained the significant and balanced role of the USU Academic Senate for the running of the PTN-BH organ check and balance mechanism consisting of the Board of Trustees (MWA), Rector, and Academic Senate based on the philosophy of local wisdom called "Dalihan Na Tolu", where these three components play a balanced role in its implementation.

After the presentation from both parties related to their respective university profiles, the event continued in a dialogue session that took place intimately and warmly and closed with lunch together. (PR)
