MEDAN - PUBLIC RELATIONS USU: To exchange information about senate management related to the implementation of duties and functions, the Senate delegation of Universitas Udayana Bali paid a visit to the Academic Senate of Universitas Sumatera Utara Wednesday (17/10). The visit was received by the Head of the Academic Senate of Universitas Sumatera Utara, Prof. dr. Chairul Yoel, Sp A (K), Secretary of the Academic Senate of USU Muhammad Arifin Nasution, S.Sos., M.S.P., Vice Rector II of USU Prof. Dr. Muhammad Fidel Ganis Siregar, MKed (OG), Sp. OG (K), Vice Rector III of USU, Drs. Mahyuddin KM Nasution, MIT, Ph.D., Vice Rector IV of USU, Prof. Dr. Ir. Bustami Syam, M.S.M.E, and the Heads of Commissions and Secretaries of other Academic Senate Commissions.
The meeting occurred in the Board of Trustees Meeting Room, USU Central Bureau of Administration Building, from morning to noon. It was filled with presentations from Universitas Udayana Senate and USU Academic Senate and discussions related to various matters regarding university management. The 13-member Udayana Senate Senate delegation was led by Senate Head Prof. Dr. Ir. Dewa Ngurah Suprapta, M.Sc.
In his presentation, the Head of the USU Academic Senate, Prof. Dr. Chairul Yoel, Sp. A (K), explained the duties and functions of the Academic Senate, its authority, performance targets, several important achievements in the last two years, and USU's institutional profile. Especially related to the determination of acquiring accreditation A from BAN-PT to USU.
In response to the presentation, the Head of the Senate of Universitas Udayana (Unud) also explained the university's profile, including the history of its establishment, vision and mission, and achievements in recent years. Universitas Udayana calculated from the establishment age is 10 years younger than USU. Currently, Unud has 1500 international students and 28 thousand domestic students. The number of international students who continue their education at Unud is suspected because of the attractiveness of destinations and culture on the island of Bali. Unud is ranked 17th among universities throughout Indonesia, while USU is ranked 15th.
In a discussion hosted by the Secretary of the USU Academic Senate, Muhammad Arifin Nasution, S.Sos., M.S.P., the delegates of Universitas Udayana Senate asked for various tips and stages to increase scientific publications, research and innovation as achieved by Universitas Sumatera Utara. According to them, the question was very intriguing to know the answer to considering USU's rapid and extraordinary development. It is also about the university's management and how the USU Academic Senate communicates its functions, roles, and authorities well.
Also asked about USU innovations that have been successfully developed into industries and tips used to generate income.
In his answer, Prof. Dr. Harmein Nasution, M.S.I.E., as Head of the Research, Development & Community Service & Innovation Commission of the USU Academic Senate, explained that the research institute at USU applies to lecturers to make their research schemes from upstream to downstream and make a road map of the research process. Thus, every research carried out has been neatly planned from the beginning to the final product and its marketing path. In addition, USU also has student entrepreneurship, which is tasked with inviting lecturers and alumni to learn how to become entrepreneurs. USU also has CIKAL, which plays a role in creating small mainstay industries.
Even so, continued Prof. Harmein, USU still faces downstream obstacles inseparable from technology, considering that Indonesia is still very dependent on imported technology.
On the next occasion, the discussion developed to cover many subjects, providing constructive input and information for both institutions. (PR)
